Prep Time:

Time Length:
5 - 15 minutes
Step 1:

Take your tissue paper and cut them into small (about one-inch square) pieces. Covering only small areas at a time, apply some glue stick to your paper cone, smooth a piece of tissue paper over it, and apply more glues stick over the top of the tissue.

Step 2:

Repeat this process all over the cone, overlapping your pieces of tissue to create a multicolored patchwork look. Remember to work in small sections so as to not make a mess of your cone!

Step 3:

Once it's covered, let your cone dry completely.

Step 4:

After it's dry, pinch together to top of the cone. This will turn into our beak.

Step 5:

Bend the pinched part down.

Step 6:

Pinch on either side of the beak to create an eye area for the head.

Step 7:

It's time to make construction-paper feathers! The easiest way to cut out feathers is to fold the construction paper in half, lightly draw a half-teardrop shape with the crease in the center, cut the shape out, and open it up! It's just like making those paper Valentine's hearts everyone makes in school!

Step 8:

Using tacky glue or hot glue, attach the feathers to the back of your cone turkey. Remember, only adults should use hot glue!

Step 9:

You can use googly eyes or other items like beads or buttons to create the eyes. You can also cut a wattle out of construction paper and glue it to the underside of your beak.

Step 10:

If you have electric tealight candles, you can put your cone over it for a glowing bit of Thanksgiving decor! (Don't try using real candles! Paper cones and fire should never be used together!)

Step 11:

Gobble gobble! He's all lit up!

Sophie's Tip of the Week

For kids' parties, don't plan on an all-day event! Limit your party time to two hours. That gives plenty of time for fun, but cuts down on the likelihood of tired and cranky kids.
