Paper Bag Owl

Crumple up some newspaper and put it inside the paper bag. Fill up about 2/3 of the bag.

Close the top of the paper bag.

Using hot or tacky glue (if you are using hot glue, please help out younger children), fold half of the paper bag opening like a doggy ear and glue it down.

Now repeat with the other side. A triangle shape should form with the point facing up.

At the base of the two doggy ear folds, fold the bag again. So, instead of having the point of the triangle facing up, it will now face down. Glue this fold down.

Now let's create a little dent in the top of the bag to really match the owl shape. Use your hand to apply a bit of pressure on the top of the owl bag creating a small dent.

As you can see, the point of the triangle fold is the beak, and the edges of the bag sticking out on both sides are the ears. Decorate the front of your bag to create a wonderfully cute owl. Draw some feathers, eyes, anything you desire.

What's an owl without magnificent wings? Trace your closed hand on a piece of construction paper. You might need an extra person to help with the tracing, especially if it's a young child. Repeat this step to create two tracings. Cut them out, and these are your owl wings!

Apply a bit of glue on the edge of the "palm" part of the hand tracing and glue it to the sides of the paper bag. You can also use the glue to add some googly eyes! Both tacky glue and hot glue will hold the eyes and wings in place. Please ask adults or older children to assist young ones if using the hot glue.

Now go ahead and keep accessorizing! Decorate the wings by adding some real feathers, craft feathers, or simply draw some marker feathers. Also, cut out some feet from construction paper and glue those in the same way you glued the wings.
