Tin Can Drum
Overview:

Easy and accessible Instruments are a child's dream! The tin can drum not only teaches children how to make their own musical instrument, it provides them the opportunity to decorate their instruments as well. The tin can drum inspires musicality and creativity! Best of all, it is appropriate for all ages.

You will need:
  1. Tin can (clean and opened)
  2. 1 balloon
  3. Scissors
  4. Decorating materials: construction paper, glue, tape, stickers, ribbons, etc.
  5. Masking tape (Optional, to protect from any sharp edges)

Step 1:

To make the tin can drum, begin by cutting off the narrow mouth of a latex balloon, right where the round bulb part begins.

Step 2:

Before moving on, if you are worried the exposed tin edges might be too sharp for a child, simply place masking tape or duct tape around the top of the can. This way no hands will be harmed when drumming!

Step 3:

Next, stretch the rounded part of the balloon over the opened top of the tin can. Smaller hands may need help with this step.

Step 4:

Guess what? That's it! You can decorate the outside or just leave it as is - the ridges in the can make a wonderful scratching sound when rubbed as well.
