Step 1:

Lay your two pieces of news paper on top of each other. Crumple the first third of the paper together in a spherical shape to form the head of the rat.

Step 2:

Now repeat the same crumpling, beginning on the other end of the news paper, to create the rat body. You should end up with two humps of attached newspaper with the first hump (head) being slightly smaller than the second hump (body).

Step 3:

Place the newspaper body in the center of ONE of your pieces of tissue paper and fold the tissue paper over the rat. Fold in the direction of head to tail.

Step 4:

Take the excess tissue paper on either side of the body, fold it in and down, snuggly along the body of the newspaper rat.

Step 5:

Right where the newspaper body ends and the extra tissue paper begins is where the tail is to form! Twist and twist the newspaper as tight as you can to create the perfect skinny and creepy rat tail!

Step 6:

Continue to twist until the very end!

Step 7:

Now to make the feet! Cut the second pieces of tissue paper into four equal pieces.

Step 8:

Create a little bump from the bottom of each tissue paper near its end by pushing your fingers underneath the paper.

Step 9:

Once the little bump is created, keep rolling and rolling the paper within itself to make a tiny little tissue knob for a foot. Then twist and twist the extra tissue just as you did the tail.

Step 10:

Once all the feet are complete, cut off the extra tissue. The feet should only be about an inch long from beginning to end.

Step 11:

Using hot glue (adults, please help the kiddies with this part!), glue each foot on the belly of the body.

Step 12:

Cut out two little circles with flat bottoms from construction paper to form some ears. Glue those on the top of the head. You can even add some fun beady red eyes!

Step 13:

Your rat is complete!

Step 14:

To make the perfect prank, tape a string of fishing line underneath the belly of the rat so you can pull it along the ground to make it move.

Go ahead and try a tissue paper mouse or cat. Add a few accessories and have some fun! Check out a few of my furry friends.
